thanks. :) Yes, it’s quite robotic, based on scientific principles on how animals learn from leading animal behaviorists and ethologists, just like the training Sea World and cutting edge zoos- and luckily that excludes all forms of positive punishment- collar grabs or scruff shakes, nos! and eh ehs!.

The problem with that is that the dog doesnt really learn to do the behavior on his own. If he learns it on his own, it is more likely he will ‘enjoy’ to do it in the future. I like the dog to figure out what to do to.

would this trick work on a 2 month year old puppy ? and is it better to teach them when ther young or older?

Yep. :) The more the dog learns to learn, the faster they get at picking new things up. So the sooner you start regardless of their age, the better.

Maybe have him work for his daily food? Or find something he cant resist? have you tried a huge range of treats? I thought Splash was bored of food and then I found a treat she couldnt resist.

I have a question with this. I’ve been having big problems teaching my 8 week old Pomeranian puppy to sit…The problem is I’ll have the treat, but he doesnt pay attention to it at all, and when he does, he walks toward me than focusing on the treat. There are times where he’ll just be very active and won’t listen at all, he wont even look at me. I did this in a quiet room too D: How do I get my puppy to actually pay attention? ty~

you could try to use some hot dog as a treat or some smelly cheese. something that almost all dogs LOVE the smellier the better. Also try to do some training before the puppy eats. If they are hungry, and the more interesting the smell of the food you have. the more likely the dog will be intent to do what you want.

After being dogless for a few years, I just got a Border Collie puppy that looks a LOT like Splash! I am curious why you didn’t use a clicker in this video. I have watched many of your videos and LOVE them….also hoping you repost the “Bomb-proof stay”, and one on what I am having trouble with is getting “Max” my border collie to do a Bomb-proof “come”….thanks for your work on all of these….they are great tools!

I have a chihuahua as well and he can sit perfectly but every time I try and make him lay he puts his bottom up when I push forward to him diagonally. I try different angles and everything but he just won’t lay down! He doesn’t lay down much often naturally anyway.. :( any tips?

Hi, do you have suggestions for luring a sit from a dog that doesn’t like sitting? we have a 70 lb hound who rarely sits. he either paces around the house or lays on his dog bed. i’ve tried going just over his head like you suggest, but he just lifts his muzzle to follow it or backs up. i don’t want to push his bum to the floor, but i’m having a hard time eliciting a sit naturally. thanks!

  17. WE LOVE CESAR in COLORADO SPRINGS!

His threefold formula of exercise, discipline, and affection is simple and effective. My 3 dogs are happy to get a morning and evening walk, have boundaries at mealtimes and limits on where they can go in the house and what they can do! Cesar Rocks!

CESAR MILLAN THE DOG WHISPERER IS A GENIUS!

don’t do that, train her to take it gently and you’ll be fine.

    Thank u so much… I am gonna try it….

Sure, if she snaps just wait to give her the treat until she stops. You could also just set it on the floor, but it’ll help with biting issues also if you make her be gentle about taking it from you =]
