Kelly, I think a Cavalier at 5 is just adult, middle-aged. Casper's 5 and we consider him young, which I guess considering his size he is! Pom Pom is now 12 and she still jumps around and plays with toys like crazy!

What actually qualifies a senior dog? Does it depend on the breed of dog? For example a 9 or 10 year old Chihuahua or Pom has a good chance of living 9 or 10 more years but a larger breed dog of the same age might have only 2-3 years left. Is the 5 year old Cavalier I adopted considerd senior or just middle aged?

Either way senior dogs are awesome!
