Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama recently made it known on national TV that whether elected president or not, his family will be getting a dog once the election is over.

While first instinct may be to go find a breeder or pet shop to buy a dog from, the Obama family has the chance to adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue group. This would be a great way to show the many benefits of adopting a dog, while hopefully encouraging people around the country to consider adoption as well.

The Best Friends network has set up a Web site called obamafamilydog.com where people can sign a petition to help show the Obamas that adoption is the way to go.

Even if you don’t plan on voting for Obama, all pet lovers who support adoption should definitely sign this petition!

Woof,

We really hope that Obama will go for a pound puppy because they are so many out there that need a good home.
Desert pups here and we were roaming the neighborhood at Technorati and saw your blog. We really like it and we’re gonna add you to our favorite doggie blog list.
